The University Nationals was a very tough tournament this year as an NCAA champion and a few NCAA All-Americans failed to place. Major conference schools like Pittsburgh, North Carolina, and Michigan State amongst others did not have anyone place at the event. Additionally, 15 of the 72 All Americans were postgraduates trying to qualify for the World Team Trials next week if they finished in the top 2. The Eastern Wrestling League did well in the event even though conference leader Edinboro had no wrestlers competing. Overall, the Eastern Wrestling League had 4 current student-athletes place with CSU and Rider each having one and George Mason garnering two All Americans. Bloomsburg also had two postgraduates place. Certainly a sign of how tough the EWL is in reality with only one less All American than the ACC or one more if counting postgraduates.
Finally, special thanks to the Kallai family who ran the various tournaments this weekend at the University of Akron. They were top notch as usual.
