Evan Cheek has been one of the top lightweight wrestlers in Ohio over the past three years. He attends Milan Edison High School in Ohio. He placed 4th at the Ohio Division 2 State Tournament in 2013 at 106 and 3rd in Division 3 in 2014 at 120. In addition to his success within Ohio, he has been very good on the national scene. He is twice a Cadet Freestyle All American, placing 4th in 2013 and 8th in 2012. Last summer he finished in the top 12 his first year in the Junior National Freestyle Tournament. In 2013, Cheek also placed 7th at the Super 32 tournament, the premier preseason national tournament in the country.
John Vaughn has started for Boiling Springs High School in Pennsylvania his first three years. In that time, Boiling Springs has been team state runners-up in 2012 and 4th at team states in 2014. Individually, Vaughn has been a state qualifier at 145 as a freshman and junior. Additionally, he has placed in some of the top Pennsylvania tournaments placing all three years at the Tool City Tournament and taking 8th and 4th at King of the Mountain.
Grant Turnmire wrestles for Almont High School in Michigan where he is already a state champion. Turnmire is a three time state qualifier in Michigan’s Division 3 state tournament. He placed 7th as a sophomore at 125 and was crowned state champion as a junior at 130. An accomplished athlete, Turnmire qualified individually this fall for the Michigan state cross country meet as well as starting on the varsity baseball team. At Almont, he has been coached by his father, Bill Turnmire, in wrestling.
All three will help CSU continue its climb to the top of the Eastern Wrestling League.
